The Basics of the Historic Building Regeneration Grant Scheme
Grant Category A:
The first grant is for Reinstating Architectural Heritage Detail, i.e. returning lost historic details; clay pan tiles, chimney pots, cast iron gutters, box sash windows, applied finishes, joinery to historic patterns, ornamental metalwork like balconies, etc. This grant is available at up to 90% of the total project costs.
Grant Category B:
The second grant is for Building and Structural Repairs, i.e. roofs, damp, damage associated with building repair work, consolidation, repointing, damp proofing, dry rot, chimneys, repair or replacement of rainwater goods (guttering), etc. This grant is available at up to 75% of the total project costs,
For Grant Categories A and B only:
These two grants can be used together or apart, in other words, you can use grant A and/or grant B. A substantial amount of work can be accomplished with these two grants. In fact, these two grants may prove a more appropriate solution than going for the vacant space grant, or grant category C,
Grant Category C:
The third grant is for bringing Vacant Floor Space back into use. This grant is very different than the other two. The grant is assessed on what is called the 'Conservation Deficit Method' because it is only available if the cost of repair and conversion is greater than the value of the space brought back into use. Eligible costs include basic work required to bring the building back into habitable use. Works can include: necessary alterations, adding heating, lighting, plumbing, as well as structural repairs and some internally decoration. This grant is available up to 60% of the total project costs.
