The Caistor Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) is an exciting and innovative project seeking to revitalise the historic Market Town of Caistor, which has undergone a process of decline over recent years.
The aims of the scheme are to help achieve the long-term economic sustainability of the town centre and to preserve, restore and enhance the historical, architectural and cultural heritage of the town.
Specifically, the THI project will promote and encourage investment in under-used and neglected historic buildings. This will have two benefits; helping to retain and reinforce the local identity and distinctiveness of the historic heart of Caistor through targeted environmental improvements; and helping to increase investor confidence in the economic viability of Caistor as a business location.
The Townscape Heritage Initiative is a grant-giving programme aimed at achieving sustainable physical improvements and economic regeneration in the historic environment of towns and cities throughout the UK. The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), which aims to involve local partnerships, operates it and regeneration agencies in bringing derelict and under used buildings back into economic and social use and repairing the fabric of historic environments.
Project Location
The project is located in the town of Caistor, a market town, which lies within West Lindsey District in the north of Lincolnshire. The town is located on the northern boundary of the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and lies between Lincoln and Grimsby on the A46. The project is focussed on the Market Place and its surroundings, refer to the map on the website that illustrates the project boundary and its location within the Conservation Area of the town. The Market Place forms the principal public space within the town and is surrounded by large three storey buildings, the majority of which are listed.
